Local Currency

The Swedish monetary unit is the Swedish krona (SEK). Major credit cards like Visa and Master Card are accepted almost everywhere, also in small businesses. Some does even prefer card payment to cash. Local and regional buses are cash free, but accept Visa and Master Card with pin code. There are many cash-free shops in Sweden, and we recommend you to bring a credit card that is open for transactions made abroad.

Exchange rates may vary. To see current exchange rates, please ask your bank, or visit a web based currency converter, for example oanda.com, x-rates.com, or your choice of bank or converter service.

Business hours & shopping

In June, Stockholm’s shops are typically open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 or 7:00 PM, with malls and larger stores often extending hours until 8:00 or 9:00 PM. Saturdays usually have slightly shorter hours, and Sundays are more limited, around 12:00 PM to 4:00 or 5:00 PM. The city offers a mix of trendy boutiques, Swedish design stores, and lively summer markets.

Sweden has a non-smoking policy, i.e. smoking is prohibited in public buildings, public transport, taxis, buses and trains. All hotel rooms are by default non-smoking.
